AT Basics
Assistive technology is any item or equipment that improves a persons functional ability. AT can also be any type of device that helps a student within the learning process. Many people believe that Assistive Technology is an expensive "device" or they focus too much attention on the word "technology". Let's look at examples!

In this video you are able to see students using walkers or equipment to assist students move around the classroom like their typically developing peers.

In this video you are able to see another form of AT. This is a low tech example of assistive technology and fairly cheap to make. Many communication boards are made by Boardmaker and allow students to communicate with the teacher.
